“Okay, how to choose the right shin guards?
So there are basically two types of shin guards that you’re gonna come across. You’re gonna come across the kind with the neoprene back, and then you’re gonna come across the kind with the, Velcro straps at the back. The kind with the neoprene back, you wanna stay away from those, pretty much at all cost for muaythai training specifically. Those are really MMA shin guards or Grappling Shin Guards, and even if you’re doing MMA, these should not be what you should use for your Muay Thai sparring.
The real advantage of those is the fact that they don’t slip around as much when you’re transitioning between wrestling and grappling, and striking… But in every other respect, they’re pretty inferior. They tear up really fast, and neoprene gets really, really disgusting really quickly—and they get unusable in a pretty short amount of time. So your shin guards that you should be defaulting to your Muay Thai sparring are the ones with the Velcro straps at the back. This isn’t a plug, but with me personally, the two bet brands that I prefer are the Twins and Top King. The Twins brand, honestly I found it, it’s a little bit cheaper, and I found it lasts slightly longer… not a whole lot longer. The Top King lasts for a very long time too. Top King lasts looks a whole hell nicer, and it’s kind of a thin form factor so it fits your shin more like a glove. But the Twins are ones, even if they get bulky they still fit your shin a lot better than they look like they would… And they last forever. They last forever; they’re strong, good quality.”
