How do you knock a bigger person out in just one punch?

Our course on winning any street fight is out! Learn how to win street fights using one Muay Thai technique! Check it out here! A knockout is a result of a severe concussion and a concussion is just a result of hard blow to the head. The brain floats within the skull suspended in fluid and concussions are caused when the head moves at such a violent rate that it forces the brain to crash into the side of the skull. There are two factors that determine how effective you are at causing this to happen: 1.) punch placement 2.) punch technique. As far as punch placement goes: The head moves very easily when using the chin to turn it. A strong punch landed right on the chin has the ability to move the head more violently with less force thus causing the knockout effect. For this reason punches (even straight ones) that attack the chin at a slight angle tend to generate more knockouts. Moreover if the punch is properly set up and not telegraphed it will be hard to see meaning your opponent won’t effectively be able to brace his neck and the head will move more violently to produce a knockout. Setups, punching speed, and power are all things that get enhanced by technique and unfortunately I can’t go over too much on punch technique without getting into specific punches and being able to demonstrate them so I can’t do it in this video, but I have several videos on askchike.com showing various punching techniques in tons of... read more

Which has superior hand striking – Muay Thai or Boxing ?

Our course on winning any street fight is out! Learn how to win street fights using one Muay Thai technique! Check it out here! Remember Muay Thai is not just a martial art, but a fight sport too. That means that the nature of competition is such that fighters will adopt what works and throw away what doesn’t. That being said, nowadays the actual punches in Muay Thai and boxing are completely identical (with the exception of a few punches like spinning backfists and superman punches that aren’t legal in Western Boxing.) When we ask which “sport” has superior punching the answer is neither since the technique of the punches in each are identical for the most part. If we ask which “athletes” have the better punches then on average boxers have the edge because that is literally the only type of strike they throw and we all know that repetition is what gets us closer and closer to perfection. The thing to remember here though is that actually throwing a strike is the lowest level of understanding. The more intricate things like defense, footwork and counterattacks are where the real skill is and are what separates the way hands are used in both arts. One of the best elements of western boxing is the emphasis on defensive head movement and counters based off of that movement. There are a lot of ways defensive head movement in Western boxing have to be changed though in order to not be open for the knee or head kick in Muay Thai. Also pure boxing footwork cannot be used in Muay... read more

What are some differences between muay Thai and krav maga?

Our course on winning any street fight is out! Learn how to win street fights using one Muay Thai technique! Check it out here! Krav Maga is an Isreali hand to hand combat system. The American equivalent is Combatives and the Russian equivalent is Systema. These kinds of systems are completely different from other Martial Arts and combat sports because of their purpose. Military martial arts like Krav Maga are designed to get you to a base level of proficiency as quickly as possible. For this reason many Muay Thai striking techniques exist in almost all military hand to hand combat systems, but the moves are modified to make them easier to understand so that soldiers with limited time to get combat ready can get to a level where they can perform them instinctually much faster. The downside is that the same level of intricacy and mental chess doesn’t exist as in arts like Muay Thai because that’s not what it was designed... read more

Which martial art is better in a real-world scenario: Muay Thai or Krav Maga?

Our course on winning any street fight is out! Learn how to win street fights using one Muay Thai technique! Check it out here! To answer this we have to get a good understanding of what Krav Maga is. I mentioned this before in a few other videos, but I’ll quickly go over it again. Krav Maga is an Isreali hand to hand combat system. The American equivalent is Combatives and the Russian equivalent is Systema. These kinds of systems are completely different from other Martial Arts and combat sports because of their purpose. For this reason many Muay Thai striking techniques exist in almost all military hand to hand combat systems, but the moves are modified to make them easier to understand so that soldiers with limited time to get combat ready can get to a level where they can perform them instinctually much faster. So the real question is how quickly might this hypothetical real-world scenario happen? If your primary goal is getting combat ready as quickly as possible then you may want to go with a military hand to hand combat system. If, on the other hand, you don’t plan on getting into a street fight within the next 6 weeks, you want your fighting skill to get continuously better and better, and you want to be able to apply your training and strategies that you’ve seen high level professionals use in real fights to sparring in order to hone your craft then Muay... read more

For this reason it is actually counterproductive to learn both Muay Thai and Krav Maga simultaneously since the Krav Maga movements borrowed from Muay Thai will be less correct. Krav Maga does however have other elements such as disarming attackers and arresting locks so if that is of interest then learning it after getting a base level of proficiency in true Muay Thai is certainly a good... read more
