“Yeah, so there are different ways. You can pivot around the guy; you can just lateral movement on the guy. The main thing you want to focus on whatever you’re pivoting on an opponent to make an angle on him, is the distance you have between us. So over here, I try to pivot, not only am I not going to be making that much of an angle on the guy, but at the same time he’s got distance to hit me something in between. When the guy can throw kicks in between me is going to be a lot more difficult than when he’s just throwing hands all the way, and I can use my hand movement to keep me safe while I’m making that angle.
So what I want to do, whenever I’m at making an angle at my opponent with that pivot in Muay Thai, is I take away the space first. I get extremely close and once I get this close, I take a small step… see I made a lot more of an angle on my guy, and from that distance he couldn’t even throw the elbow. He’s too close to throw the elbow, too close to throw the kick, anything like that. So here, I get in very close, I turn, and then from there, I do whatever I want to do. I get in close first, I make my angle, and then I can throw whatever I want to throw.”
