“That’s the art of it, that the hard part of defense, is be able to defend a whole lot of stuff and long stretch of combinations and that’s when you get like Colonel Whittaker level where you can see everything. Most people get to that level and honestly, you don’t have to when you can defend, like 20 shots in a row, really you’re just showing off. But with one or two you should hit the guy back already. If you can make the first two miss, you should be able to maintain that counter attack. And then secondly, you should make sure that even if the counter attack doesn’t land, at least the threat is there, so the guy doesn’t feel comfortable throwing, 4,5,6 punch combinations at you. If the guy feels comfortable throwing combination that long on you there’s something wrong in the first place. He should never feel okay to open up on you and throw 8 punch, 9 punch, and 10 combinations at you.”
“So basically, I need to learn how to counter better at the first and second punch?”
“Yeah, but three is all you need. Three should be the max. You should never go beyond three without feeling something back.”
